Bill armstrong is our new british champion

Equal 1st - Owen Phillips and Bill Armstrong (BCA Champion)

Bill armstrong is once again our British champion, coming equal first with Owen Phillips with 5 out of 7 at our British championship, held from 27 May to 2 June at the Old Swan Hotel, Harrogate. Bill played some fighting chess, particularly in the final round where he beat Owen, who had been at the top for most of the tournament. This is the fourth time that Bill has become British Champion, having previously won in 1983, 2013 and 2015. Congratulations to Owen too, who was playing in his first BCA British Championship event.

Equal 3rd - Colin Chambers, Steve Burnell, Ernie McElroy

Final Standings were as follows:

First on 5 points Phillips and Armstrong
Third on 4.5 points McElroy, Chambers, Burnell and Doyle
Seventh on 4 points Welch, Andrews and Rugman
Tenth on 3.5 points Loftus, Gordon, Casey and Cuthbert
Fourteenth on 3 points Gailans
Fifteenth on 2.5 points Wickett
Sixteenth on 2 points Lowery
Seventeenth on 1 point Harrington.
