THE B.C.A. MINOR 2002

The B.C.A. Minor Tournament 25-May-1 June 2002.

The B.C.A. Minor Tournament took place at St Winifred's

Hotel, Morecambe, May 25-June 1 2002. The Minor Tournament is particularlysuitable for less experienced players and those returning to chess after a break. 16 members competed, playing 1 game per day over 7 rounds.

There was a very close race for first place, with Brian Perham (Colchester), John Gallagher (Leeds) and David Hodgkins (Leamington Spa) on 5 points after round 6. John and David faced each other in the last round, while Brian took on Phil Gordon. David and John's game ended in a draw while Brian won with the Black pieces to take the Steven Eastwick-Field Trophy with a final score of 6/7. John and David shared 2-3 place with 5.5/7. Grading prizes went to Alan Davey (Cheltenham), Geoff Patching (Penzance) and Peter Price (Birmingham) on 4 points.

Brian was awarded the Steven Eastwick-Field Trophy. This is a new trophy for the winner of the Minor Tournament, in memory of Steven Eastwick-Field, a long-standing and enthusiastic member of the BCA who died last year.

The Tournament also featured free coaching and a round-by-round results bulletin to the e-mail user group from Julie Leonard and Colin Chambers.
