Editorial

Once again thanks are due to Sean O’Brien for sponsoring the cost of this edition of the gazette. Also I’m sure we’d like to extend special thanks and a warm welcome to Janet Hempson who has taken on the task of recording the audio version of the gazette. Apparently Janet knows our secretary, Norman, because her husband plays at Norman’s chess club.

Apologies to those who experienced delays in receiving the Braille edition of the gazette in August. I never did get a full explanation of what happened, but at least the RNIB were prompt in printing off extra copies once I told them of the problem.

The chess content of the gazette continues to expand. I think five games may be a record. It certainly is for my editorship, though if older hands know of editions where there were more, perhaps they could tell us. A less happy aspect of my editorship has been the relatively frequent appearances of obituaries, and sadly this edition is no exception. The death of any member is a sad event, but I’m sure for many of us Clive Hodgkins had a special place in our hearts. Our condolences go out to David, Phyllis and the rest of the family at this time.

Finally could people let me have contributions for the February edition of the gazette by Sunday 2nd January.

Guy Whitehouse.
