Rothay Manor Chess Holiday by Steve Thacker

From 16th -21st March I decided to go for the first time to Ambleside, which is about 6 miles from Windermere.

Peter Cloudsdale's chess holiday, costing £625.00, includes tuition and a well run 7 round Swiss tournament at Rothay Manor which is a comfortable, quaint old hotel offering excellent breakfasts and evening meals with plenty of choice and offers plenty of walks and free use of the nearby leisure centre. Seeded near the bottom of the pack of 8 other men and two ladies, I scored 3 out 7, having lost the first two, won the next three, only to be blasted away by the two joint winners who both scored five.

I very much enjoyed the occasion, met some nice people and would go again, especially if Norman Andrews comes!
