Regular readers will know that this section features happy events in the lives of our members. This time I am delighted to have two pieces of news which are sure to strike a joyful note with all!

Firstly, many members will be familiar with the Lauriston Hotel in Weston-super-Mare and so will no doubt be pleased to hear that a very special question was ‘popped’ there on Christmas Day last year by Thuy Mallalieu to Abi Baker. The lady said ‘Yes’, so let’s all congratulate this popular couple on their engagement! They have often brought great enjoyment to BCA events by sharing their wide array of musical talents with us in the evenings and I’ve no doubt that many members will join me in wishing Abi and Thuy a happy and harmonious future together!

Next month another musically gifted BCA member will also be celebrating! Jim Cuthbert, who often gives wonderful renditions of Jim Reeves songs at BCA soirées, has a big birthday coming up. Jim, I’m sure you won’t be on the blue side of lonesome on the 19th of June because your many BCA friends will be welcoming you to the world of being seventy. The date holds precious memories for Jim as it would also have been the birthday of his late wife, Mary, and silver bells were surely ringing for the couple when they married on that same date in 1982. So let’s send best wishes for a happy birthday to our very own “Gentleman Jim”!

Please continue to let me know about your special occasions so that we can all share the good news!
