Personalia

In May this year our former chairman, Alec Crombie, was elected as Mayor of Uppingham for 2016/17. Although he is tremendously busy serving his local community, Alec has made time to send his BCA friends this message:

“Ably supported by Caroline I'm now some 90 days in to the office of Mayor of Uppingham and am still standing! Events are usually good fun, but the real hard work is in the numerous meetings of Council for which my long experience with the BCA has stood me in good stead.”

Alec adds that he looks forward to seeing us all again one day and wishes the Association all the very best. In return we send Alec our congratulations and will be delighted to welcome him and Caroline back to a BCA event in the future!

Ed Green is another BCA member who has not been to one of our events recently. Ed has been busy getting married and starting a family! On the 17th of June this year, he and his wife, Katherine Katō, became the very proud parents of daughter, Michiko Olivia Katō Green. Ed hopes to return to play in a BCA tournament at some point, but in the meantime, we send Ed and Katherine our warmest congratulations on their new arrival!

Last but not least, many congratulations to associate member, David Welch, who is to receive a FIDE Arbiter’s Award this year in recognition of his long service as an International Arbiter. The presentation will take place in Azerbaijan in September, where David will be working at the FIDE Olympiad. He is only the third English arbiter to be honoured in this way. The BCA is fortunate in having both David and one of the other recipients, Gerry Walsh, as associate members.
