Windermere Chess Theme Break 2016

Next year’s Windermere Chess Theme Break will take place from Saturday 30th January to Saturday 6th February 2016. The weekly rate is calculated as £56 per person x 7 nights = £392 and discounts are available for booking before the 1st of October and for being a member of the RNIB. Please note, however, that there is a change to the way in which these discounts will be applied.

Based on information supplied by the Windermere Manor Hotel in respect of the 2016 Windermere Chess Theme Break, it was previously announced that people whose bookings qualify for both the Early Bird 10% discount and the RNIB Membership 10% discount would receive two reductions amounting to 20% of the original cost. This is in line with the practice that has been in place for many years. However, Andrew Wilson, the new manager of the Windermere Manor Hotel, has since informed us that these discounts were being calculated incorrectly and that a different procedure will be used in future, starting with bookings for the 2016 Windermere Chess Break.

The weekly rate is calculated as £56 per person x 7 nights = £392.

A person who books prior to 1/10/15 and is a member of the RNIB will get their early bird discount of £39.20, leaving an interim balance of £352.80. They will then receive 10% RNIB discount on the interim balance of £352.80, resulting in a further reduction of £35.28, leaving £317.52 to pay.

We queried this change, which is to the detriment of the chess group, but Andrew assured us that the way in which discounts will be calculated from now on is what should have been happening all along.

A person who is not a member of the RNIB but books prior to 1/10/15 will continue to get the 10% early bird discount of £39.20, leaving £352.80 to pay. A member of the RNIB who does not book early will still get the 10% RNIB discount of £39.20, leaving £352.80 to pay.

Please also note that all deposits are now £50 and this can no longer be carried forward to a later year should you be unable to attend. The Hotel Manager thinks it advisable for each person who books to take out insurance cover and we agree that this is a prudent precaution.
